The Angel Tree

How our Angel Tree Works

Throughout the summer months we provide application forms to prison chaplains. The chaplaincy team pass these out to those prisoners who request them and need help in providing for their child and wish to take advantage of this scheme.. Some restrictions apply: The children must be 16 or under; they must be children or stepchildren of the prisoner; and there must be no court order barring the prisoner from contacting his children.

During the Autumn we then perform 90% of our fund collecting, both directly to the individual/group and via local churches etc. collections are accepted right up to the 30th November which is when the shopping begins!, Generally, we provide each child with two gifts, some sweets and a Christian publication with a total value of around £10.00 per child, any left over funds are kept in a secure bank account and rolled over to next year to provide for more children.

The presents are then purchased by ourselves based on the childs age and sex, The prisoners are asked to write a card which we then attach to their presents, the gifts are wrapped and, shortly before Christmas, the gifts are delivered via courier to the child's home.
